5 Things I Would Tell My Younger Self

There is a trend right now on Tiktok where you act like your younger self waking up in your now selfs body. This trend is interesting. It’s been interesting to see people who struggled with severe depression and suicidal tendencies when they were younger snd now they are happy. It’s really neat to watch because even though you may not know the person, you still root them on be because beating depression is a beast. Anyway. Here are things I would tell my younger self.

1. Life is going to be hard but you are tougher. Life is going to throw a lot of things at you. Bullying, things that happened in the past that you repressed, mom getting cancer and passing away, your brother being physically and verbally aggressive, a move, etc. But you can get through it. It will not be easy by any means but you will get through it.

2. God is real and God is good. Depending on what age would be reading this, you strongly disliked God and didn’t really know if you think He is real. Yes you went to church but even when going to church, you can be lukewarm or just going for show. God saves you when you are 14. You have an encounter with God one night you are really struggling and God swoops in and makes you realize that He’s real but that He loves you and that your life is worth living.

3. Your life is worth living. I know at one point you are going to think the world would be better off without you. News flash it’s not. Like it may seem that way but you will do incredible things one day. Life is hard. Life does not treat you the greatest and you are struggling. God will show you that your life is worth living. God gave you a life worth living.

4. You are going to meet incredible people who change your life. There will be people who come into your life for a season and then there will be people who have been in your life for 5 years now that hopefully isn’t just for a season. These people will help you feel better about yourself but most importantly lead you back to God. These people will be your support when you are struggling. These people will be there for you. Not everyone is bad. Not everyone leaves.

5. You gotta just be you. When you are who you truly are, nothing can stop you. You are strong. You are brave and you are confident. When you put all those things together, you are unstoppable.

These are just some of the things I would tell my younger self. When I think back to my younger self I think of a girl who was very much struggling. I think of someone who didn’t know if she wanted to live another day. I think of someone who didn’t have anyone and thought she was a burden. When I look at my younger self, I see a broken girl who needed love. And I’ve gone from that broken girl to a girl who tries to find her worth in Christ.

Hold onto hope and stay strong.
