It Will Get Better

It’s going to get better. It may seem really rough now but it is going to get better. It has to right?

A few years ago I was battling severe depression. With this came other things like suicidal thoughts and self harm. But I can tell you that it has often better. My depression is not as bad as it was even a few months ago, I haven’t had a suicidal thought in over 3 years, and in April I will be 3 years clean from self harm.

Why am I telling you this? Because it scares the crap out of me? Nope. Because I know there are other people just like me who are struggling and need hope. The only reason is so that it could possibly help someone else because honestly letting people know this side of me scares me because people are known to treat people like me differently.

Heres the thing that I am trying to get across, it will get better. It just takes time. Sometimes it takes a long time and sometimes it takes a short time. Lets be real, it took me having severe depression for about 5 years for it to finally start to go away. It took 3 years for me to get self harm under control. Like it takes time but it gets better.

It will get better. It may seem hopeless and like it won't but it will. One song from my favorite band says “Depression’s like a big fur coat, it’s made of dead things but it keeps me warm.” Maybe that’s where your at today. Maybe your stuck in a depression because you feel like it. Is never going to get better.

Depression will end one day. It just takes time for you to heal. Every situation will end one day. That same band has a song that says “every tear one day will dry every scar one day will heal.” Like it will get better. It takes time. Everything will heal. You will heal from your current situation. Even if it is a royally sucky situation.

I promise you that it will get better. It may not seem like it now. And you may call me a liar. But it will get better.

Think of the story of Elijah, he was depressed and hopeless. He even asked God to take his life. But did God? Of course not. Did it get better for Elijah? Well you have to read 1 Kings 19 for yourself to find out.

Paul went through many trials. He was shipwrecked, whipped, and more yet he kept going. Did it get better? I believe so because he went to heaven with God.

Britt Nicole has a song called Better. It’s about life getting better for the girl who hides in the back of the classroom. This song is one of my favorites by her. Some others are When She Cries and The Sun Is Rising. I suggest listening to one of these songs.

Look it’s going to get better. God is with you and He will help you through anything you are going through. But you have to remember if its not okay then its not the end. God will make everything okay in the end. You will be okay. And it will get better.
