Today Skillet released an unplugged version of their song Never Surrender. I like the song but was never in love with it. Now I am in love with it. The unplugged version is so good and I feel like now that I actually heard the lyrics, I can relate to them. Lyrics like “I don’t wanna feel like this tomorrow” and “I don’t want to live like this today”. One part of the chorus says “stay with me here now and never surrender.” I feel like that’s God talking. I feel like He’s saying look my child, don’t surrender. Stay here with me where you are safe and loved and don’t surrender. You will win this war. You will win this fight. Lean into me and stay with me. Don’t surrender. Surrendering can look different in people’s life. It could be surrendering to that addiction you’re struggling with. It could be surrendering and giving up your life because you can’t take anymore. It could be surrendering and staying in that toxic relationship. Whatever it is for you, don’t surrender. I don’t think God wants us to surrender. He wants us to surrender our lives to Him but that’s different. I think He wants us to always be fighting. He wants us to keep going in this war. He wants us to keep going and persevere because what he has planned for us is greater than anything imaginable in this world. God is incredible. He is our present help in a time like this. Psalms 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” He is my refuge. “He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” Psalms 91:4 God is so amazing. I don’t know why He does what He does for someone like me. I make mistakes. I struggle.
