Fierce: Uncommon faith in uncertain times
Day 1
-Do you have enough trust in your friends to take you through an adventure blindfolded?
-This is the kind of faith we need in Jesus. We need to always have our eyes on Him, even when we are blindfolded. Peter and the disciples were being tossed around in a boat at see when Peter sees Jesus walking on water.
-What would you do in this moment?
-In this moment, Peter shows some of the faith he had in Jesus by asking Jesus to allow him to walk on the water to Him. Now when Peter has his eyes on Jesus, he gets to walk on water. When His eyes turn away from Jesus, he falls into the water and panics.
-In that moment, do you think you would have been able to keep your eyes on Jesus?
-This shows Peter’s fierce faith in Jesus. It shows that he trusted Jesus enough and wanted to be near to Jesus that he was willing to risk going into the sea for Him. A key part of this story is that when Peter gets distracted, he sinks. It’s so easy to get distracted by things from this world but we need to strive to always have our eyes facing Jesus.
-Matthew 14:22-33
Day 2
-Do you find it easy or hard to forgive when you have been wronged?
-Forgiveness points to the Gospel. Forgiveness points us to God because it is the very nature of God. God forgives us for everything we do when we ask for forgiveness.
-Do you think we should forgive people even when they don’t ask for it?
-Fierce faith leads to fierce forgiveness. Through faith we have been forgiven but that’s not just something to receive. It’s also something to give. We are told to not just receive forgiveness but also give it. Forgiving doesn’t come natural but the closer we get to God, the easier it will be to forgive.
-Matthew 18:21-35
-Colossians 3:13
-1 John 1:8-9
Day 3
-Jesus was the most generous man ever. He laid down His life for you. We are meant to be like Jesus, so that means we should be generous too. Being generous can lead to more joy and freedom. God wired us to enjoy life when we are being generous.
-Do you find it easy to be generous?
-Being generous isn’t just about money. It’s about any and all things we have. It could be things like time, money, relationships, homes, influence, etc. There are a lot of ways to be generous.
-What’s one way you could be generous this week?
-Matthew 6:19-21
-Acts 20:35
Day 4
-Jeremiah 29:11
-God has a plan for your life. You have a calling but you may not know what it is yet. One of our callings for being a Christian is being ambassadors of Christ and agents of new creation. Instead of asking yourself and others “what do you want to be when you grow up” ask “Who do you want to serve.”
-The most fulfilling and fierce life is one where you follow God’s calling in your life in humility before God.
-2 Corinthians 5:20
-Ephesians 2:10
