Hey everybody! Tonight we are going to talk about Hosea chapter 2 & 3. These chapters were just as good as the first one. And I am so excited to share my thoughts and findings with you!
Chapter 2
Verse 1: “call your brothers” is a command. Its not a suggestion but a command that God is giving us to do when the timing is right.
Verse 2: “For she is no longer my wife and I am no longer her husband.” This is a threat. This is to show that the marriage between God and Israel was still intact.
Verse 4 is a clear rejection of fatherhood.
Verse 5 makes God, and Hosea, a husband wronged and injured by infidelity.
Verse 6 is the way of saying that 8th century prophets, which included Hosea, believed that Israel’s sins could be forgiven.
Verse 8 is explaining how Israel was taking everything God gave them and giving it to false gods.
Verses 9-13 talks about what the Lord had planned for Israel due to them falling away. He was done, over it. He wanted nothing to do with them until He remembered His love for Israel.
Verse 14 sets the reason that Israel was getting punished. It was to bring them back to repentance and back to the Lord.
Verse 15, the valley of trouble is the valley of Achor in Joshua 7:25-26. This place was to be a place of hope.
Verse 16 and 17: Israel will stop worshiping false gods and call God husband again.
Verse 18: God will let Israel live in peace when they say He is their husband.
Verse 19: God is the only one who can show/offer righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. Exodus 34: 6-7.
Verse 20: Israel will once again know God.
Verse 23: God will show love to the unloved and make Israel His people again.
What is this chapter saying? To me it is saying that even if we fall away from God, there will be repercussions, but God doesn’t forsake us. He remembers us. He loves us and doesn’t want harm to come to us. He wants us to live in peace when we acknowledge Him as God. Sometimes we deal with temptations but ultimately they are to help our faith grow stronger.
Chapter 3
Verse 1: Hosea was to still love Gomer to show that God still loved Israel.
Verse 3: “You must dwell as mine”. Force of a command. The separation means giving up the things that led to Israel’s demise.
Verse 4: Israel is to go without worshiping kings, idols, pillars, etc. for a long time.
What did I get out of this chapter? Well first off we are called to love everyone, even those who are hard to love. We need to spread that love. Secondly that separation from certain things could be a good thing as they can lead to your demise. Without them you could start thriving.
