Where is Your Foundation?

Yesterday in my time with God I was reading Hebrews 3. It talks here about having a firm foundation in God. That made me think of Matthew 7:24-27. Here it talks about having your foundation of your house either being on rock or being on sand. When it’s on sand and a big wave comes, it's just going to be washed into the ocean. When a wave comes and your foundation is on a rock, it will not be washed out to see.

Our foundation should be in Christ. Christ is the solid rock in our lives. He is the only rock we should be building our lives on because anything else is sand. The book of psalms talks about God being a firm foundation all the time. Or how God is the solid rock you stand. Or how God is the solid ground.

As a Christian, God needs to be our rock. He needs to be our solid ground and that is not for Him. That’s for us. In order to live a fulfilling life, our foundation needs to b built on Christ. There’s a lot of songs that talk about God being our firm foundation or the calm in the storm, etc.

When our foundation is in God, the storms may come and they will rock us but they will not wash us out into sea. We will be able to maintain our foundation. There might be a little bit of damage, but it will still be standing because our foundation is in the rock.

I know in my life that when my foundation is in Christ, I do so much better than when my foundation is in different things from the world. When our foundation is in Christ, it’s easier for us to thrive because our hope and foundation is in the right place. Worldly things can be enticing but they can only satisfy for so long. They will not be sustainable.

“In Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.”

I think this lyric hits it on the head. All other ground other than Christ is sinking sand. You will go down when you are not focusing on God. This reminds me of the story of Jesus walking on water and Peter.

Peter saw Jesus walking on water and had fierce enough and bold enough faith to ask Jesus if he could come to Him. When Peter had his on on Jesus, he was walking on water, but the second he took his eyes off of Jesus, he fell into the water. He was sinking because in that moment he looked away from Jesus.

When we keep our eyes on Jesus and God, it’s easier to build and maintain our foundation in them. When we keep our eyes on them, we do not sink in water, we walk on water.

Where or who do you have your foundation in today?

Hold onto hope and stay strong.
