Self Love

Self love. Some people may think that it is selfish to put yourself first sin some aspects but at the same time isn’t what we are supposed to do. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves and if we don’t love ourselves, how can we love our neighbors?

I will be honest, I have not always practiced self nor have I always loved myself. In fact I still struggle with it now. Somedays I don’t think I am over the fact that I used to and could possibly still hate myself.

The thing is, is that even Jesus tried to practice self love when he was here on earth. He would go to secluded places and pray, he would spend time with his disciples/friends, he would try to go off by himself and just take a little bit to recharge. If Jesus practiced self love, shouldn’t we?

Im not saying to go crazy overboard into self love. Now what do I mean by this. I mean do not start valuing yourself above everyone else. In the Bible, it tells us to value one another above ourselves meaning that while we should do self love, we shouldn’t start valuing ourselves above everyone else.

It’s easy to think harsh things about yourself. It’s easy to say “I’m worthless”, “I’m nobody”, “I’m…” fill in the blank.

This is why we need self love nowadays. Its something that people don’t generally talk about either even though it is something that is so needed.

The real time that people realize that they don’t like themselves or think down on themselves is when they start trying to practice self love. Self love is so easy yet so hard.

It can be so simple as getting up 10 minutes earlier to read your bible or staying up 10 minutes later to wash your face and do a face mask. It can be drinking your favorite drink. It’s drinking the right amount of water you need. It’s eating properly. It’s not being harsh to yourself but showing yourself the compassion and care that you show other people.

Have you ever thought of treating yourself the way that you treat others? Would you be kinder to yourself? Would you see your true colors and see areas in which you need to change? You never know until you try.

Self love is so so important. It’s something that we should all practice. We should all be kinder to ourselves. We should all learn to love ourselves regardless of your “flaws”. Those “flaws” aren’t seen in God’s eyes by the way. When He looks at you, He sees perfection. He sees a beautiful daughter of the one true king.

You have one life, you get to choose how you live it.
